I Do! All you have to do is go into the motel, go downstairs, and there's that thing that you put the fuel rods into, and once its full of fuel rods, go near it, and it should say charge metal detector, then it'll charge =)

I've been using metal detectors for 30 + years.

I would suggest one of the entry level detectors from White's Electronics.

I would avoid the junk they sell at walmart, radio shack, dick's sporting goods etc.

White's has local distributers that will walk you thru the learning curve.

I used to own White's - I now own Minelab. Infact, if you saw the program about the lost anglo-saxon hoard that was just found, the detector they showed (White's Spectrum) is exactly the same model that I sold to buy the Minelab detector.

$100 seems to be a fair price. Your Quicksilver Metal Detectore has
# Fully automatic ground balance with Squelch-Tech® eliminates false signals

# Push-button discrimination and one-touch depth control makes it easier to use

# Four segment digital target identification and three tone audio feedback

# Easy view LCD display is readable at varying distances

Having used and sold metal detectors, you cannot buy one that can be used at the beach for less than $100 or you will be buying one everytime you go to the beach. The cheapest waterproof detector or salt water proof is around $600. Anything else is not designed for water or salt water area. They are a lot of fun and you can find lots of things if you have the correct metal detector for the area and for what you are looking for. Do a little more research on them before you buy one.

To detect gold I think you need an expensive detector.

Most of the ones bought at shops I think can only do base metals like iron or steel.

I could be wrong. I am interested to see what others have to say.

Good Afternoon,
You are asking a question asked by many people who want to get into metal detecting. I have to make a couple of presumptions given the information you give me.

1. The most important one, is that the water you will detect in is fresh water and not sea water. If you want a metal detector to detect in sea water, save your money until you are well over $500 for a machine that will satisfy your needs.
2. There is a local dealer near where you live who will help you.

If you are detecting in shallow fresh water, and do not intend upon submurging your detector (only the coil and shaft), you should look at a Garrett ACE 250. This machine is easy to operate, very forgiving to newbys and very reasonably priced. http://www.garrett.com/
If you intend upon detecting in the surf (again fresh water) and you worry you may get your machine wet, look at the "Wader" from Detector Pro. http://www.detectorpro.com/headhunter-wader.htm.

If you wish to find out about detectors, try to find a local dealer in your area. If you wish to join a Yahoo metal detector club, look at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/metaldetectingfamily/

We have literally thousands of years of detecting experience under our belts and are willing to help you find help in your area.
Regards, David in Madison

I have always been partial to White. Although, I have a compass and it still does a great job 20 years later.

When I buy things for my child I usually buy quality items that I can also enjoy. I believe the child always appreciates a higher quality. Although I have seen decent detectors at Walmart for about $100 (if you are just lookin for a cheap gift that's easily returnable).
